SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL + Craft Lab

At Design Epithet, our goal is to promote and execute fully sustainable projects by 2025. Our dedicated lab and team of designers are committed to developing innovative compounds and materials that replace environmentally harmful products. We are focused on discovering new processes for reusing and recycling materials, ensuring that our designs not only meet aesthetic and functional needs but also prioritise environmental stewardship. Through research and collaboration, we aim to create solutions that minimise waste and promote a circular economy, ultimately contributing to a healthier planet.

CORN HUSK

Our process turns corn husks from food factories into durable materials for sustainable design. By partnering with food processing organizations, we collect corn husks and prevent them from becoming waste. We mix these husks with special sustainable bonding agents to create a strong composite material.

This corn husk-based material is versatile and mouldable, making it perfect for signage, wall art, and installations that reflect eco-friendly values. Each piece features a natural texture, adding warmth and authenticity to any space while promoting sustainability.

Designed for both durability and adaptability, this material can be reprocessed and reshaped into new designs after years of use, supporting a circular lifecycle. By utilizing agricultural byproducts, we reduce waste and promote environmental responsibility. The corn husk composite offers an innovative and renewable medium for creative expression in both public and private spaces, bridging the gap between sustainability and artistry.

PAPER MACHE

Our innovative approach combines papier-mâché and clay with specially formulated sustainable bonding agents to create resilient, eco-friendly materials for spatial narrative design. We source confidential, shredded paper waste from organization shred boxes, transforming it into hard, durable materials ideal for signages, wall art, and installations that celebrate sustainable practices.

The fusion of paper and clay, reinforced with sustainable binders, produces a material with enhanced durability and structural integrity. This material is versatile and easily shaped, perfect for custom-designed elements that bring a story to life within spaces. Each piece is created with environmental impact in mind, utilizing recycled materials that would otherwise contribute to waste.

Beyond its initial use, our material stands out for its reusability: installations and artworks can be reprocessed and remolded into new creations years later. This unique adaptability not only reduces waste but also enables evolving expressions of creativity that align with shifting spatial narratives and sustainable goals. The result is a truly circular design approach, emphasizing both the beauty of re-imagined materials and a commitment to eco-conscious craftsmanship.

FALLEN DRY LEAVES

Our innovative approach repurposes fallen dry leaves, combined with sustainable bonding agents, to create durable materials for spatial narrative design. By setting up collection boxes within organizations, we gather fallen leaves over time, transforming what would be waste into resilient, eco-friendly materials. This process emphasizes the use of natural resources, creating a sustainable cycle that aligns with environmental values.

Through a unique bonding process, the dried leaves are transformed into hard, versatile materials that can be molded into diverse forms such as signages, wall art, and installations. These installations not only communicate sustainability but also embody it, as the materials can be reshaped into new art pieces after years of use. The resulting textures bring a natural, organic aesthetic to indoor and outdoor spaces, adding depth to their visual storytelling.

This approach ensures a lasting impact by offering a renewable and adaptable medium for design. Each piece celebrates the beauty of reclaimed natural materials while minimizing waste, creating a balance between innovation and sustainability. These durable creations serve as powerful visual reminders of the potential of sustainable practices in art and design.
